- The abandoned ship Garðar BA-64 in Skápadalur

Garðar BA 64 was built in Norway as a whaling vessel 1912, (same year as the Titanic met its final fate) the state of the art ship is the oldest steel ship in Iceland. It was named Globe IV and was equipped with both sails and a steam engine to use when the weather was still. At the end of the second world war the ship was sold to Iceland and named Siglunes SI 89 and the old steam workhorse which has powered it all those years was replaced with a 378 hp Ruston Hornsby diesel engine. In 1963 it finally acquired the name it has today, Garðar. It was a good ship and served it’s owners well for a long time. In desember 1981 Garðar BA 64 was deemed unfit for duty. Instead of sinking it a sea as was the custom in these days, it was and rammed ashore at Skápadalur valley in Patreksfjörður. Today Garðar patiently awaits it’s inevitable rusty fate in the sand providing tourists with a spectacular scene and just the perfect photo opportunity. Entering the inside of the ship is prohibited due to safety reasons

Fögrufossar (Lekafossar, Hrauneyjafossar) in Sigöldugili (Waterfall Fögrufossar in Sigöldu Canyon)

The canyon Sigöldugil used to be filled by the river Tungnaá. Most of the water from the lake Krókslón is now forced into conducts to the power plant. But the canyon is still there for our pleasure and the overflow of Krókslón lake.
I have heard three names on thease waterfalls, Fögrufossar, Hrauneyjafossar and Lekafossar. Which one is right I‘m not shure of. Perhaps they are all right

- Krossneslaug – Geothermal pool in the beach

Krossnes by Strandir in the West Fjords peninsula is one of the most interesting pool in Iceland .  It is located in a remote place; the surrounding area is stunning with mountains on one side and the ocean on the other side.
The geothermal pool at Krossnes on Strandir is located a bit north of the fjord Norðurfjörður on the east side of West Fjords near the Arctic Circle. The pool is one of Iceland's most interesting and unique destinations. It is a very peaceful and relaxing area with beautiful landscape.

- Abandoned Herring Factory at Eyri in Ingólfsfjörð

The factory was constructed by the company Ingólfur hf. during the years of 1942-1944. The main reason why the factory was built was because of the growing herring stock coming in to Húnaflói bay. The fishing failed some years after the factory was built and therefore the factory was closed in 1952.

- Two radiators in the middle of nowhere

If it gets cold in the Westfjords, we fire up these two radiators to warm up the surroundings.
They have been out of order so it has been much colder there for the past years. They plan to fix them next summer. Hmmmmm - Or what?

View to Dynjandisvogur out to Arnarfjörður in Westfjords

Arnarfjörður is the second largest fjord in the Westfjords region of Iceland. It is thirty kilometres long and five to ten kilometres wide. "Arnar" is possessive of "Örn" and so was named the first settler of the fjord. The bay of Dynjandisvogur is known for the waterfall Dynjandi, which plummets over the edge of the cliff. Measuring 30 meters wide at the top and 60 meters at the bottom,

Tjaldanes Abandoned Rural Home in #Iceland

Tjaldanes was the homestead of Arnars, whom Arnarfjordur holds the name from. He choose to settle down there because he could claim as much land as he wanted. He selected Tjaldanes because there he could see a glimpse of the sun over the whole midwinter.
