Couple Portrait

Couple Portrait Project.
A4. Watercolor. Ball Point Pen.

In May of 2017, I was contacted by Cara, who came across my earlier artworks on social media, to do a couple portrait for her third anniversary. I accepted the project as I felt that it would be a good experience to improve on my technical skills and also to experiment with multiple subjects in a single piece. I also felt inspired by their strong relationship despite their age, and their background story of how they were childhood friends that blossomed into lovers.
With the piece, my main goal was to capture the essence of love and youthful passion and thus I chose two separate pictures that captured this best and cropped them together to form the basis for my portrait. I also included the colors red and blue to create a harmonious yet contrasting combination through the pairing of primary colors and also for the meaning and feelings associated with the colors, with red creating warmth for Cara as she was more passionate and out-going, and blue creating coolness for her boyfriend whom I saw as a calm and composed gentleman.
