L’economiaviterbese si basa prevalentemente sul settore terziario, oltre a possedere ungrande patrimonio storico-artistico e ambientale, vi è la sede dell’Universitàdella Tuscia, la sede militare del Comando dell’Aviazione dell’Esercito (AVES)e i centri di addestramento della Scuola Sottoufficiali Esercito (SSE), exScuola Allievi Sottoufficiali (SAS) e della Scuola Marescialli AeronauticaMilitare (SMAM).
Con laconversione del servizio militare di leva in non obbligatorio abbiamo assistitoallo spopolamento e ad un conseguente parziale abbandono delle strutturemilitari sopracitate.

The Viterbo's economy is mainly based on the tertiary sector, as well as having a great historical and artistic heritage and the environment, there is the seat of the University of Tuscia, the military headquarters of the Army Aviation Command (AVES) and centers of training of the Army NCO School (ESS), a former non-commissioned School Students (SAS) and School Marshals Air Force (SMAM).
With the conversion of military service in not mandatory we have seen depopulation and the consequent partial abandonment of military structures mentioned above.

Nel 2003, con la denuncia del sindaco di Ciampino sulle pessime condizioni di vita e di salute che si vivono nella piccola cittadina a causa dell’eccessivo traffico aereo, si è aperta una gara tra provincie per accaparrarsi l’appalto del nuovo scalo, conclusasi nel novembre 2007 con la scelta ufficiale (da parte del Ministro dei Trasporti) di Viterbo come futuro aeroporto civile, in alternativa a Latina, destinato a diventare il terzo scalo passeggeri del Lazio, dopo Fiumicino e Ciampino.

In 2003, after the complaint of the Ciampino's mayor about the unhealthy conditions of life of the small town due to excessive air traffic, was opened a competition between italian provinces to gain the contract of the new airport, which ended in November 2007 with the official choice (by the Minister of Transport) of Viterbo as a future civilian airport that it will become the third passengers airport of Lazio, after Fiumicino and Ciampino airports.

Lastruttura scelta è l’aeroporto militare intitolato al Tenente Pilota TommasoFabbri.
L’ingresso, che si trova lungo la provinciale Tuscanese, dista poco piùdi 6 kilometri dal centro storico della città; è circondato da campi coltivati,a brevissima distanza dagli stabilimenti termali e dalle sorgenti idrominerali(Bullicame e altre), dall’orto botanico dell’Università della Tuscia e dallanecropoli etrusca di Castel d’Asso.
Subito,intorno alla zona interessata si è dato il via ad una notevole speculazioneedilizia: vengono innalzati alberghi e costruiti svincoli stradali, espropriati terreni, concessifinanziamenti e fatti girare soldi senza una meta precisa… che rischiano disparire ancor prima di vedere qualche risultato reale.

The structure chosen is the military airport "Lieutenant Pilot Thomas Fabbri".
The entrance, which is located along the provincial road "Tuscanese", is just 6 kilometers far from the historic center of the city. It is surrounded by cultivated fields, in a short distance from the plants thermal and mineral water springs (Bullicame and others), from the botanic garden of the University of Tuscia and the Etruscan necropolis of Castel d'Asso.
Now, around the area, is started a speculation out of control: hotels and road junctions are started to be built, lads has been expropriated, granted has loans and money has been assigned without a clear destination.

La concretizzazione del piano casa, ed il conseguente via libera alla cementificazione, avvicinano sempre di più la realizzazione di questo ASSURDO progetto.
Assurdo (ed INUTILE come il ponte sullo stretto e l’alta velocità) in quanto verrà costruita una struttura SUPERFLUA pensando di potenziare solo in seguito quel che riguarda i collegamenti già esistenti (come la ferrovia e i mezzi pubblici), che rimarrebbero comunque INADEGUATE ed INSUFFICIENTI, in una città senza una vera attenzione al patrimonio culturale e allo sviluppo turistico.

The execution of the Berlusconi's "housing plan" and the deregulation of construction, get closer and closer the realization of  this ABSURD project.
Absurd (and USELESS as the "Ponte sullo Stetto di Messina" and "Treni ad Alta Velocità in Val di Susa") because it will be built as an unuse structure without thinking about the already existing connections (such as rail and public transport), that would still be inadequate and insufficient in a city without any real attention to cultural heritage and tourism development.

Lefoto sono scattate al Bullicame, sorgente a poche decine di metridall’aeroporto militare che verrà ampliato, e sono accostate ad altre scattatea North Greenwich, Londra, zona travagliata da continui e persistenti lavori,dove adesso sorgeranno centri commerciali, casinò e alberghi in appendice alvillaggio olimpico di Londra 2012.

The photos are taken at Bullicame, the source a few tens of meters from the military airport which will be expanded, and are juxtaposed to other pictures shots in North Greenwich, London, an area troubled by continuous and persistent work, where now will rise shopping malls, casinos and hotels linked to the London 2012 Olympic village.

Le duesituazioni hanno un solo punto in comune: LA TRANSIZIONE, il cambio d’utilizzocon un breve futuro.
ILCONTRASTO è nell’amministrazione: nel caso inglese, probabilmente dopo leOlimpiadi ci sarà una nuova demolizione e la ricostruzione di qualcos’altro dibrevemente necessario.
L’aeroportodi Viterbo rischia di rimanere un mostro addormentato, nella migliore delleipotesi completo e inutilizzato, in caso contrario si aggiungerà alla giàinfinita lista delle opere incomplete italiane.

The two situations have only one thing in common: THE TRANSITION, the change of use with a short future.
THE CONTRAST is in the administration of the 2 cases: in the English case, probably after the Olympics paly there will be a new demolition and a reconstruction of something else briefly necessary.
The Viterbo's airport will remain an asleep monster, at best, complete and unused, otherwise it will be added to the already endless list of incomplete italians pubblic work.

La miaattenzione si è però  focalizzata sull’AZIONE DELLA TRASFORMAZIONE…sull’eleganza che trovo nei disegni che creano le impalcature, sull’effimera precarietàche mi suscitano i cantieri, e la leggera poesia che ho vissuto fotografando quelliinglesi… relazionata all’impatto devastante che potrebbero avere lavori di taleportata a casa mia, sull’orizzonte che conosco da sempre e su quanto questo,anche solo la sua minaccia, abbia reso ai miei occhi la zona del Bullicame giàtriste, spossata e priva di voglia di vivere.

My attention, however, focused on the ACTION OF TRANSFORMATION ... the elegant desing of scaffolding, the ephemeral lightness that I find inside building sites, and the slight poem I lived photographing the English construction sites ... related of the devastating impact that works of this magnitude could have near my house, on the horizon I've ever known, and how this, and even the threat of it, has made from my eyes the area of ​​Bullicame already sad, exhausted and no will to live.

ATTRAVERSOL’OBBIETTIVO della macchina fotografica, catturo ciò di cui ho bisogno percontinuare a sognare e desiderare, ciò che vale la pena ricordare econdividere…
AlBullicame le sensazioni sono state cupe e tristi, nonostante l’ambiente ancoravergine di cantieri, e ho voluto metterle in relazione con uno spazio già incostruzione, capace comunque di suscitare brividi di bellezza.

At Bullicame the feelings were gloomy and sad, despite the ambient still virgin of sites, and I wanted to relate them to a space already under construction, however, capable of arousing thrills of beauty.

Lostrappo come fusione tra bidimensionale e reale.
L’assemblaggioartigianale poco curato dei frammenti rimanda alla non curanza nel progetto dicostruzione dell’aeroporto e alla non attenzione al contesto nel quale esso siimpone.

The presentation will emphasize the tearing of space to which the area will be subjected to.
The rift as a merger between two-dimensional and real.
The craft untreated assembly of the fragments refer to the disregard construction of the project and the careless attention to the context in which it is imposed.
