THE DESCONECTOR:
dISCONNECTED IN AN HYPER-CONNECTED SOCIETY
Nowadays, due to new technologies and the characteristics of our smartphones, we can be in constant contact with our families, friends or followers and, therefore, we are hardly able to be alone with ourselves. This context has enable an increase of the followers of  the “Slow Life” philosophy: a countercultural movement that aims to break the imposition of a rhythm of life where we have become the animal laborans that finds its realization through work, making it impossible for us to dedicate our free time to the contemplative life (Marx, 1867).

“Disconnected in a hyper-connected society” was born as a response to the current pace of life, the hyperconnection caused by ICT and social stigma to the pleasure
of loneliness. Moreover, proposes to establish these moments of disconnection, from the creation of a series of objects that allow the abstraction of the user. This disconnection will be based on isolating the interior of any device from the electric fields coming from outside, as a result of using the Theory of Faraday Cages.

Consequently, this is how THE DESCONECTOR was born: as a range of products made with aluminium foil with which it is intended to raise awareness of the growth of a new need for disconnection. Developing a final degree project within the framework of critical design, which aims to make society reflect on the attitude we take towards new technologies, from an ironic message towards the consumer culture and hyperconnected.
