Kids book cover design is very close to toy packaging design. Ginny knows the delicate balance of bright colors, interesting callouts, and fun graphics, without making the books busy and confusing. Instruction booklets are part of the toy science kits designed to give a more in-depth knowledge of what they are learning. The challenge is not to make it seem like school work and Ginny designs them in a fun, playful way with many photos and illustrations. Where there is no budget for custom illustration, she is a big fan of manipulating stock images for these types of projects since it can save her clients money. The design of an ad for kids tends to be for the parents, so a different use of words and graphics are needed and that is where Ginny's experience as an art director in large advertising agencies in Los Angeles plays a big part.
