GizmoTab (Verizon)
GizmoTab was an amazing project to work on. It was so challenging to create a kids experience that had both embraced fun/learning via technology as well as the morality and ethical mentality of limiting a child's 'screen time'.

Our goal was to incentivize kids to learn by gamifying the educational aspects so that as they learned more, they could (if the parents wanted to) earn more "play" time.  So we integrated an amazing library of 3rd party educational apps into an immersive 3D game world experience, allowing kids to explore content based on their interests vs. forcing them into a linear sequence.

Content was tailored to their age range and learning level and parents, most importantly, are given amazing tools and data to keep track of and manage their child's tablet usage.
The screen featured above is what kids see as their "Home" screen. A 3D island experience where each island has a specific theme, which relates to the app content hidden within. Parents were given easy access to the Parent Dashboard via an slightly inconspicuous icon in the lower right.
Above, the "App Tray", is a conceptual screen for a more immersive/themed app tray.
One of the difficult UX challenges we faced was the user onboarding. This application has so much to it, for both kids and parents, and we had to balance both the visual/marketing-driven content with the utilitarian features such as account creation, child profile creation, etc. and make efficient so users wouldn't be frustrated after unboxing.
Above, the Parent Dashboard, the parent can adjust their child's daily tablet time limits as well as what the potential play time reward bonus would be for every hour of learning completed. The dial is a convenient and somewhat flashy treatment so it was a great balance form/function.
When it came to product launch, I didn't want to leave the execution the creative/visuals used to market this product to another team. This was months of work creating the actual experience and we had some great concepts/ideas on how to market it and how that presence should look already drafted. In the end we produced some really creative and unique visuals for things like the product detail pages (on the ecomm site of Verizon) as well as a potential Gizmo "family" standalone site that showcased all of the Gizmo products.
