The Rubik Shelter, by GAME Architects, was originally conceived as an affordable shelter for researchers to be deployed in the Knysna-Amatole montane forests, South Africa.
The shelter structural system draws its inspiration from the Chidori joint system, an old japanese toy that allows planks to stay together with no use of glue or nails.
The solution allows for a double facade system that enables multiple configurations, similar to a Rubik's cube!
The versatility of the system allows for endless amounts of possibilities and expansions.
The shelter can therefore be assembled with almost no tools, almost anywhere, and with no special skills required, thus making it a versatile option for researchers and short term communities.
