Urban America’s complexities fail translation in media sound bites and disassociated statistics. Realities are best made by experience, on the ground experience. There were new truths discovered during my Detroit trip and the great challenges seemed to be balanced by a great people. Mayor Bing made it clear as he spoke to me and the other lunch guests that to count Detroit out based on platitudes and headlines without context is both foolish and shortsighted. The Yankees can personally attest to this fact. This sunrise alludes to the same hope, promise and potential.
