Mock Branding for Banned Items
The objective of this project was to brand items or products that are either awkward to see branded, banned, or even branded less frequently. I picked medical cannabis, and specifically Whoopi & Maya because their mission resonated with me and I wanted to see how cannabis can be advertised in a way that is seen as helpful and sophisticated as opposed to a criminal substance seen only as a hallucinogen and nothing else. These posters are not official, they are merely products of my experiments that make use of student freedom.
Discarded Sample Poster for Whoopi & Maya medical cannabis products. This iteration was discarded because it didn't fit the clean, almost soothing style of the brand but it was made to attract attention with bold horror and the imagery. My idea was to first bring attention to the pain and then lead the viewer to the small text at the bottom. 'this won't be you anymore'. However, my message was unclear, and instead of 'pain relief', this design was only showing the 'pain' and no relief.
New series created to match the sophisticated style of Whoopi & Maya, as well as to convey the message without misunderstanding. Medical cannabis is used only for times when the pain is severe and chronic, so my posters aimed to address this severity of pain only. I used my bracket forms to create the image of a female body and used simple line forms to show the form of the reproductive system. I wanted to capture the struggle of period cramps with images and figures of speech that would resonate with users and therefore attract them to a product which promises to soothe even such a severe ailment.
