Rose Paintings

I started to become fascinated with roses last year, 2016, and decided to paint one for one of my classes. I think roses are complex enough to paint, because of its many petals and layers, but more than that they hold so many symbolism. Every time I paint a rose marks a significant stage in my life. Each color of rose means something different for me.

This was my very first painting of a rose. I painted this for one of my graphic design classes. I was just a beginning painter then, and we had to use black, white, and different shades of grey to illustrate tone for our paintings. I think this is a perfect first rose painting. It was a perfect practice.

This was my second painting, and I did improve a lot, if I must say. I chose a red rose. Most of us associate red rose with romantic, passionate love, but during this time, I actually personally associated it with my love for my self. My self-love. I was at a point where I was starting to be gentle to myself and appreciate myself.

This painting is very personal to me. I painted this during the time I was passionately in love with someone. His favorite color is blue and I've always associated him with that color.

This is by far my favorite one. It uses many different colors. By this time, my painting skills and attention to detail have advanced a bit. Although, no doubt I still have A LOT of room for improvement. This one is my favorite because of what it meant to me. I always thought, if I was a flower, I would be this flower. Purple has always been my favorite color ever since childhood. This painting for me, signifies me as a person, my individuality, and how I am multifaceted, as exemplified by the many shades I used here. Personally, I thought this looked the best.
