Fruit and Veggies Project
Understand the Problem
Must take pictures of fruit and veggies. I plan to try shooting the fruit in abstract ways so I can communicate all the different elements the food can give. Fruit and veggies have very different types of textures, colors, and shape so being able to photograph them might seem easy. My goal is to photograph the still life in a different way to push my composition skills further. I will be exploring the different colors, shape, as well as textures I can create. One of m biggest challenges might be placement of the food or the way I composition it with the camera. I also might wanna try using different lightings with the food to create different tones and such. My main goal Is to try something nonbasic.

Research and Investigate
While looking and playing around in this website (Behance) I saw many different types of photographer playing around with fruit and how to make the concept interesting. For example this photographer that does Black fruit with paint had an interesting concept with the way he splatter paints the fruit. Another photographer builds actual shapes out of the fruit. Lastly I liked how this photographer 'dips' his fruit into paint and have a fade throughout the fruit. All these photographers have a certain style I kinda wanna play around with. Mostly the fruit and veggies they use all have different types of textures I like as well. In common though they use: Bananas, lemons, and apples. But I plan to use: bananas, lemon/lime, pineapple, cucumber, and some kind of melon.

Select AND DEVELOP Best Solution
I decide to work on and produce the fruits with paint thrown onto them. I had to have a fast shutter speed to catch the paint splashing onto the fruit. I took plenty of photos to capture the correct exposer while having fast shutter speed just to make sure I had everything ready for the paint. I had a dark wood as a background to contrast with the black fruit and the bright color paint splatter. I chose to develop one of a banana, and two of a pineapple. For those photos I really liked the splatter and the range I have with the colors.
Model and Prototype (Create)
For all photos I tried different angles of splatter and different direction as well. Trying different color of splatter and different consistency. I tried pouring just paint and splashing water, and mixing the both of them. I also shot in all angles just to see what would look more interesting. I painted the fruit black also so all the different colors throw wouldn't over lap and have so much noise.
Test and Evaluate
Photo 1- For this one I got a really good back splash on a pineapple that I really liked. I played around with changing the color of paint in Lightroom and in photoshop since I had a limited supply of paint. I also had the background masked with a lower exposer hoping to focus more on the fruit and paint rather than the background as well. I also played with cropping the photo is different ways; either showing the paint bucket, only showing parts of the pineapple and the splash, or just showing the whole fruit and the splash. I tried editing this one in color effects but the only thing I did was mostly increase the contrast, clarity, and making the color really pop.
Photo 2- With this one I had two different layers of splashes that I thought would go well with each other since one goes in front of the pineapple, and the other would've came off the fruit. I layered these two photos in photoshop and the started editing it mostly in Lightroom. Again I tried manipulating different colors I can get with the paints and bumped up the clarity, contrast, and dehiring effect. I didn't do much in color effects with this photo because I thought the color and layering was going to seem too fake if editing the colors were too much.
Produce
Photo 1- I really liked the color and splatter I captured from this photo. However the highlight in the photo is a little washed out and the fruit almost blends with the background. I did have fun throwing the paint and capturing it. I do want to explore more with stop action with liquids so that'll be something for next time.
Photo 2- For this photo I still feel like the orange paint seems too fake even though thats how the original photo is. I also included the bucket more in this one to show more paint splatter that kinda missed my pineapple. However I liked how the consistency of the orange paint and how it over laps the fruit. I feel liked this one I focused more on the photoshop as well and trying to make it less fake. I liked the color highlight too on the fruit and how it slightly blends into the dark background.
