Marketing, Assessment & Programs (MAP) Database
The Marketing,Assessment, & Programs (MAP) database is a web-based administrative system created by William Jones and designed to allow the University Career Center & The President's Promise to easily track participation in services aswell as organize and market events. The system was created due to a lack ofcomprehensive alternatives on the market conducive to the needs within the Center. The system was nationally recognized by the National Association ofColleges and Employers (NACE) with the coveted NACE Innovation Excellence inTechnology award in 2009.

Event Participation Tracking: This module allows the user to enterdata about the program such as location, time, description, etc. It also includes a sign-in feature whereparticipants of that event can be electronically tracked and a demographicreport can be generated at the click of a button. An electronic event assessment feature is alsoincluded in the system. Last semester we included a swipe card feature to speedup the event check-in process and a new nametag production feature is underBETA testing. The generated reports have been very helpful during career fairdebriefing with our external academic partners.
Appointment Tracking: This module was designed to trackcounseling appointments for our Center. It includes an intake form and a student sign-in. Counselors are able to view the student eventand counseling participation history prior to the appointment using thismodule. Other features include a newlydeveloped online scheduling system that synchronizes with staff MicrosoftExchange. Like with the event module, reports can be generated arounddemographic data and assessment results for the counseling appointment. Thetracking information has been beneficial to our Center when determining peekcounseling hours.
Survey Administration: This module was designed to assist withthe data collection surrounding the University-wide Graduation Survey. This module allowed us to completely move thesurvey online. It also has a referralsystem built in which enables survey participants to send the survey to othergraduates. It also includes an automaticemail reminder system that will send the survey invite to students who have notcompleted the survey at some predefined interval. Our participation rates went from 21% to anaverage of 70% since implementing this module into our system. An electronic reporting system was alsodeveloped to allow easy access to filterable data to our academic colleagues oncampus.
E-newsletter Distribution: This module allows the Center to send anhtml electronic e-newsletter to subscribers once a week. Without the need to know HTML, users on ourmarketing team can design a publication that will automatically pull in Centerevents (submitted through the events module) that are customized to the userbased on school/college registration. Insteadof creating 12 different publications, the system will do the customization forus. The system also automatically stripsout non-currently registered university students and also includes anunsubscribe link. The e-newsletter has become the #1 source of careerinformation for students on our campus.
Web Content Management System: This module allows for the management ofour websites (www.Careers.umd.edu and www.PresidentsPromise.umd.edu) without requiring the manager to knowHTML. Drop-down menus, sub-menus, imagebanners, and content are features that can be adjusted within this system.
Usage Reports: Assessment is important to our Centerand the University. Most modules have abuilt-in reporting feature that allows for the tracking of students based ondemographic data as well as a report to view evaluation data. The overall system also includes a sectionthat can generate reports based on college/school which pull information fromall the areas of MAP that can be used in meetings with academic partners. These reports can be generated on screen orpdf booklet.
