DXB202 OnePerDay
Week Two
The Passing of Time...

BORED
Technique- DSLR Photography, Using a tripod with shutter speeds of 3"2 and 4, ISO 200+ and an aperture setting of f25.

Process- The following images were taken using a canon series 550D. Using a tripod in a low light setting the model was asked to perform small movements to create a sense of change and movement in the photographs.
When editing the images, only small amounts of filters were placed on the photographs. Using the app VSCO a C9 filter with high saturation and contrast was used. These images use a -1 in exposure, +1 in contrast, +1 in temperature and a +1 in fade.

Reasoning- The motivation behind these images is to create a sense of change and movement. Passing of time to me is reflected in how time flies and how we don't realise how quickly our lives go. Therefore, these images show a model who looks like she is sitting or standing still but in reality is constantly moving or changing. These images use a similar colour palette of deep warm colours with a contrast to the cool blue.  I chose a straight on camera angle to make the model look more in the focal point of the viewer.

Reflection- The struggles of these images was using an open shutter speed at 2pm during the day. Trying to find the right amount of lighting whilst still allowing a long enough shutter speed was challenging. What worked well i think is the contrast of the deep orange and blue of the wall. Also the mix between the colours I like a lot. I also like the different shapes the stairs and walls make with each other with the sharp angles.

Week Three
Portraits

Black, White and Raw
Self Portrait
Technique- DSLR Photography, Using a tripod with a manual setting

Process- The following image was taken using a canon series 550D. Using a tripod I placed outside, I used natural lighting from the sun to create a shadow on the lefthand side of my face. Allowing the manual setting on the camera to do the work, I used VSCO to create a filter using a pink shadow tint of +4, a vignette of +5 and an of exposure -1.

Reasoning- The motivation for taking this image was wanting to create a raw black and white photograph. As an individual I don't enjoy smiling and dread having my photograph taken. The framing of the photograph is close up only capturing my face, conveying a meaning of power. Lighting suggests a dark and gloomy feeling and gives the impression of something mischievous.

Reflection- Reflecting on this image, it was hard trying to find the perfect spot where the light hit my face as a couldn't look through the lens and check. I had to continually change my position to get the sun shining in the perfect position. I found it hard choosing a photo which i thought best represented myself as i am my own worst critique.
Someone you live with.
Process- The following image was taken using a canon series 550D. Using a tripod I placed outside, I used natural lighting from the sun and the shadows from the leaves to create the depth and dimension in this photograph.

Reasoning- The motivation for taking this image was wanting to create a raw black and white photograph. The scale of the photograph is close up only capturing the main facial features. The angle of the camera is coming from the bottom looking up slightly which creates a contrast in foreground and background. The foreground being the leaves and tree and foreground the model. The reasoning behind the image was to capture my sister in a moment of raw and organic. I like how the photograph looks natural, no makeup no special effects.

Reflection- Reflecting on this image, it was hard capturing an image at 1 pm in the afternoon with the sun really bright. I was trying to capture a dark image and it was hard finding the right light. I like the freckles in the image and how the leaves are covering her face.
Classmate
Process- The following image was taken using a canon series 550D. This photo was taken in the studio of a tutorial where we were playing with different lighting options. The light was faced to the left of the model as a high hight with a light blocking umbrella.

Reasoning- The motivation for taking this image was wanting to create a raw black and white photograph. Within the shoot the model was very chirpy and happy, continually laughing. Therefore, capturing this image i feel although i caught him in a state of innocence and with his guard down.

Reflection- Reflecting on this image, i found it hard working wiht so many other photographers in the same room. Playing with the light and figuring out where it hit his face the best. Things i could of done better is i wish i was able to left some of the light his the other side of his face just to create more depth and contrast.
Self Portrait- Illustrated
Process- The following image were created using hand drawn illustrations and illustrator. Through using the pen tool in illustrator different patters with different brush strokes where used to create a contrast in line and form within the face.

Reasoning- The motivation for using these techniques of different line thicknesses and patterns was because as a person i see myself as never perfect. I have uneven freckles , I have frizzy baby hair and i have crooked teeth. As an artists I never wanted to represent myself as perfect because i'm not.

Reflection- Reflecting on this image i think i could of used more shapes e.g. triangles to create sharp angle within my facial features. Next time putting colour or coloured lines in to create a depth to the image, but through saying that i do enjoy the raw black and white. The challenges of these images were drawing a self portrait of myself as i have never experienced it before.
Week Four
Ekka

Memories...
Process- The following images were created using a 4B pencil and ink point pen. These images were draw from memory of some of my favourite things of the Ekka when I was growing up. As a teenager and adult I stopped going to the Ekka, therefore these images are memories of what i believe where good times when i went as a child.

Reasoning
Bertie Beetle- The Bertie Beetle show bag was one of the first show bags that i ever bought. I remember going to my first Ekka and going down the laneway of show bags and looking at the array of colours and sizes of bag.

Clown Face- As a child the clown game at festivals and carnivals always scared me. This memory event though bad, is one of the main ones from the Ekka whilst growing up.

Strawberry Sundae- One of the most iconic treats at the Ekka. I remember going to my first show and literally have 5 of these treats.

Sheep- I remember going into where all the livestock is at the Ekka and meeting the pigs and ducks and all the animals. I distinctively remember that one of the sheep where pregnant and it gave birth when we were walking pass.

Reflection- From looking at these images i wish i put colour or some sort of depth or dimension into them. e.g. Collage or paint.
Week Five
Storytelling

Memories
Technique- Hand drawing

Process- These images were draw using a 2B pencil.

Reasoning- The motivation for this image is it is one of the best memories i have as a child growing up in Queensland. Back in 2003 my family went to the Gold Coast for a holiday where we rented a 1997 Volkswagon Beetle car. I remember very distinctly driving around the Gold Coast with the roof and windows down feeling onto of the world.

Reflection- Reflecting on this image, i could've put the image in illustrator and tried using vectors to create a more professional and clean image. But through saying this, i enjoy the rough and hand drawn feel of the image.
My House
Technique- iPhone 6, hand held.

Process- This image was taken laying down on my back looking up at the ceiling in  my house. The image was edited using VSCO with the filter C1 with a high situation and low exposure.

Reasoning- The motivation behind this image is that my house is my creative dome. When i look at or think of my house it is always this room. With 5 meter high ceilings and doors that stretch that whole distance its like living in a box with windows. I love this room as it allows us to dangle or hang whatever we want from the ceilings. This image captures the light and the ways the room changes colours throughout the day.  When i look at my house i think of fun, playful and clutter-full. And i believe this room positively symbolises me.

Reflection- Reflecting on this image, i like how i chose a different angle to shoot from.
Sky at 12:30pm
Technique- DSLR Photography, Using a tripod manual focus

Process- The following images were taken using a canon series 550D. Using a tripod i faced the camera directly upwards. Editing the photos i wanted to create a high saturation with a high contrast as well.

Reasoning- The motivation behind the images was that i wanted to take a photo that included the shape and shadow of the clouds. I wanted to allow natural light from the sun to hit the clouds in certain ways to create shadows and patters on the sky.

Reflection- Reflecting on this image, I like how with the sun coming through the clouds it creates different shades and tones of blue. I also like how the clouds hold some grey as well.
Week Six
See that thing?

Technique- DSLR photography, 550D canon camera

Process- Walked around my house to find objects thats looked like they were smiling or had some sort of facial features.

Week Seven
Light and Scale

Technique- DSLR Photography, 550D Canon ,Using a tripod manual focus

Process- The first 4 images were taken using a 550D cannon camera where i shot at the ground of my home where the light played on the different household items, creating patterns on the floor. A black and white filter was places on all images.

Reasoning- The motivation behind the images was to create an abstract photograph playing with light. At the beginning i didn't want to play with artificial light but with natural light. The following images use shape and form to create pattern and texture. The main aspect of these images is to create angles and patterns through the use of light and shadow. The images use geometry with different focuses of depth.

Reflection- Reflecting on this image, i think they worked well in creating different patterns and shapes with light.
Scale

Technique- DSLR Photography, 550D Canon ,Using a tripod manual focus

Process- The set up of this image was blue tacking the object feet to a wall where i then placed around him leaves and sticks to look like rubbish. The images represents a man in jail picking up rubbish from the side of a road. I used manual focus to allow a blurred background. The filter chosen was a C5 with a medium to low saturation and low exposure.

Reasoning- The motivation behind the image was to create a story with the figurine. Because he looked like he was in a prisoners jump suit i decided to make it look like he was picking rubbish of the side of the road. I like how the photograph only shows 2 colours, blue and a deep brown.

Reflection-  Reflecting on this image, i would of liked to have more figurines and maybe a bigger set for more things to play with.
Week Eight
Textures and Patterns

Texture from man-made object
Technique- DSLR Photography

Process- The following image was taken using a 550D canon camera with the manual settings on. The image was put into VSCO where a high saturation filter was placed on it.

Reasoning- When walking outside of my house i have a shed with corrugated iron walls. This picture is that corrugated wall. I liked the way the sun reflected off it in certain angles giving the depth of the shadows.

Reflection- There weren't any struggles with this image.
Pattern created by me
Technique- Hand drawn and illustrator

Process- The following image was draw using a 4B pencil and then was finalised in Illustrator. I made the image by drawing a sketch of a robot, where i then put it into illustrator and created a new layer. Whilst using the pen tool i traced the outline and then copy and pasted the robot multiple times to create a pattern.

Reasoning- The motivation of choosing a robot, it because it has many different angles and bits and bobs.

Reflection- If i were to do this again i would try and add more dimension to the illustrations by maybe adding a drop shadow or colour.
Texture from nature
Technique- DSLR Photography

Process- The following images were taken using a canon series 550D. Using the manual setting of the camera. Filters were put on both images with high saturation.

Reasoning- The motivation behind these images was trying to find a pattern in my backyard that was different.

Reflection- The struggles of these images was finding focus on suck a close object. Also i found that in certain lights the flash would come on and it make the images look different and weird.
