In my third year illustration class, we were tasked to illustrate a book cover for a Valentine's Day themed children's book as part of a lecture on character design. We were required to design a girl, boy, and cupid character, as well as create a background illustration and title to go along with it.
I went for a very simple style of drawing with minimal shading and bright colors to make my illustration more appealing to children. I intentionally gave the Fox Girl and Wolf Boy a warmer color scheme to make them stand out while the fairy character was given the same purple color scheme to subtly blend her into the background.
My illustration revolves around the concept of a Fox Girl and Wolf Boy falling under the spell of a fairy who uses the pollen of the Cupid's Dart flower to cause people to fall in love, similar to the story of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream."
