By Areios Photography

@ 2AM is a project by Areios Photography that shows us a different side of our cities, a side that only shows itself once we have already closed our eyes for bed.
In the middle of our slumber, the city of Dallas takes on a whole new character. Where during the day, her streets are filled with the morning traffic. Her coffee shops lined with people chatting over cappuccinos or toffee nut lattes. But at night, her streets are practically barren, and those who walk around are not business men and women; rather, people whose stories we've long forgotten, whose identities we prefer to stay away from, as we turn a blind eye to them and escape into our dreams and cozy beds. These people are the homeless.
I call the piece below: Aversion.
For some reason, my eyes are drawn away from this man, even though he is my subject. I spoke with him later that evening over some McDonalds and he mentioned that that was his reality, that people wouldn't even bother looking at him. They would avert their gaze from him out of fear that he would talk to them and ask them for money. He wept because people seemed to have forgotten about his dignity, his humanity.
As we go on about our lives, may we never forget them and more importantly, may we never forget their humanity.
