Concierge® Shopping Cart Handle

Concierge® - a computer mounted to your shopping cart handle. Pretty awesome.

Some of the amazing concepts we explored.
Focus on the barcode scanner.
Nice design but a little too rugged looking.
Originally the idea of a USB key to transfer files was desired. This concept was quickly abandoned because of technical & operational issues as well as the forsight into future tech trends (hello -WiFi).
Battery concepts - nailed it!
Nice, but a little too technical looking.
The winning concept.
A big thanks to Jason Busschaert for the renderings.
The "cradle" design was chosen to allow a standard computer assembly to be inserted into a variety of different receiving parts.
The computer housing slides into the handle "cradle" and locks into place.
The vision of what we wated the top clamshell to look like.
Top clamshell options - resolving the display stack was a very complicated process
Perimeter details to ensure the water stays out.
Figuring out the details of the clip-on cradle.
SolidWorks CAD model - how many hours did I spend looking at this?
Section view right through the middle of the device.
Bottom battery houseing for the Li-ion cells - vibration welded and hermetically sealed.
The top clamshell - the most complicated part - overmolded optical lens.
The cam-lock - My favourite part because it's cute and was one of the few parts I designed completely independently.
Lock slide - these keep the battery securly in place.
Bottom clamshell production drawing.
Core side - bottom clamshell. Beautiful.
I'm very proud of the work the team did to create this wonderful product. Mark, Jason, Sarah, Marcus & Aldo, you guys are amazing. Thank you so much!
