Emotion Engineering CC4262 - Emotional Response Task.
Task Given :
Select poster, video, application or design that evokes negative response. What are the elements that makes you feel this way and what are the recommended solutions to improve these problems.
Chosen design - A Badly design wedding boutique website (Yvette Bridal Formal)
Reasons for it being bad:
1. No clear structure - Blocks of information are scattered all over the page.
2. Don’t know where to start first - No clear navigation panel or buttons.
3. Text too small, some too big.
4. Too many text underlined (some are clickable, some are not).
5. Too many different colours - Lots of hues confuse the eyes
6. Background image is too busy.
7. Get a little dizzy looking at the website - The purpose of the store is to sell the items, but this web design just makes me want to leave.
Yvette Bridal Formal website
My recommended solution would be:
1. Design an easy to understand navigation - navigation panel are always placed on top of the page.
2. Using 2-3 font colours will give the best look.
3. Solid tone, or a very simple gradient is the best option for background image. I will remove the background image; Peacock, and replace it with a solid colour (colour theme should related to what the store is providing (wedding theme).
4. An easy to use layout. - Avoid excessive text. Naturally, human eyes read from left to right, top yo bottom.
5. Pleasing to the eyes - Do not use all UPPER CASE type in the page. It can make the material difficult to read.
5. Great content that’s easy to find, navigate, consume, and share.
6. Headings and other text having the same level of importance should be the same font size.
