Paper Works
Craft paper food

A project in which our team decided to depart from the obvious forms and materials of still life photography. We combined paper craft and elaborate lighting. The challenge was to create paper food that would leave the viewer drooling.

With our art director, craft designer and retoucher, we brainstormed forms, sizes, product colors and frame geometry. The accent was on a color palette and color synthesis. There were several lighting schemes employed during the shoots,  to show different mealtimes. For example, for the breakfast atmosphere (coffee & muffin) or for the bright noon (melted ice-cream) we chose harsh, searing light that imitates the sun.

This wasn’t the first time we worked with similar objects, but our first time with paper craft. We worked with our designer Ira Donska to focus on post-production details. It was crucial to preserve the imperfections of paper so that to highlight it wasn’t a 3D image, but a photo of handmade paper objects.

All the preparations took us about 10 days, five of them ‘cooking’ the paper food. We did three photoshoots, divided into several thematic sets.

Let us present your attention the most interesting pictures from the series.
