A world famous American fast food brand makes mooncake – a traditional taste of East Asia culture in Mid-Autumn festival? Since the beginning, we had felt so interesting in this brief: Design and produce the mooncake packaging for McCafé. It’s a huge challenge for us that came along with pressures. The pressure did not came from the variety of other stunning designs in the market, it also came from our own task: How to create a packaging design what can combine both Western and Eastern culture? We do not want a oversize and bulky mooncake box then the design team considered to make a square top with 23.5cm each edge and 11.5cm depth. Although it’s a small size of the box but it still can contain 4 mooncakes and a ceramic cup of gift. The cakes and cup are packed inside separate containers that designed with branding colors. We want to express the spirit of fast food culture into the packaging design of McCafé mooncake box: small, easy to use and create a playful experiences for the customer. The mooncake box was designed to be open up to 1800 to distinct show the containers what are placed in separate row. The design make customer enjoyable to pull out the container and explore the taste inside.For guaranteeing the closure of the box, we use the metal catch outside to keep it close and reliable solid block. On the top of the box, the hand-drawn illustration express lively the flexible combination of McCafé mooncake’s ingredients and the wide spread drink of the brand. The combination brings customer a freshly, familiar and classical taste of festive season.
