These images are an exploratory exercise in organic design, and are loosely based on the lithographs of Ernst Haeckel's "Die Kunstformen der Natur" of 1904.  His iconic images are often copied and are an enduring inspiration for many artists and scientists.  With this series I aimed to put my own spin on these amazing single-celled creatures and I built an imaginary scenario, a parallel world.  These freeform protozoa and diatoms have their own reality, and with their own distinct taxonomy occupy a space in my ongoing process of imagining a new mental landscape... vital, albeit theoretical.
