BY A LADY - Jane Austen Multimedia Exhibition

The exhibition titled, Jane Austen, By a Lady, explores the life, times and books of Jane Austen and links her texts to the world of 250 years ago. The exhibition is involved with innovative multimedia designed by the students, transport the visitor back to the history, culture, geography and lifestyle of the late 18th and early 19th century. Virtual reality and animations are just some of the inventive media used.
The exhibition is a collaboration between retired Monash Medicine Professor Chris Browne, colleagues in the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture and student from master of multimedia design and Melbourne City Council as part of the Melbourne Rare Book Week. The works from Masters student are equally compelling. An interactive timeline, with the audience as driver, compares Austen’s life and works with the current affairs of the day. Original illustrations from Emma flit past on one screen while on another, you can touch to read passages from some of the novels in your immediate surrounds. Virtual reality goggles take the wearer back in time to Jane’s world of the manor house, blooming rose garden, farm yard, beachfront and stormy docks. For something a little more permanent, visitors can send themselves an email postcard from the lady herself.
From the start of this project, everyone made great efforts on each part of the exhibition. We had six different exhibition plan. The aim of our exhibition plan is to represent the old time glamour through new technology. Thus, the basic colour for our plan is gold. Here are some parts of our exhibition plan from the slide for client meeting.
At the production stage, my professor Dr. Indae, my classmate Jeffrey and I were looking after the 'gossip wall'. It is the part of the exhibition for representing the interesting quotes from Jane Austen.
The documentary was Shoot and edit By Danqing Miao and Sanket Singh.
