My submission to a competition for the German BUND (German Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation) about the over-fertilization of the seas. Sadly I didn’t win but I think the comic strip is definitely worth showing.

Winding Wet
When I was still a seahorse,
in a previous life,
How delightful, incredible it was,
to float under water.
You wear a colourless suit of armour
and your face looks worried and old.
As if you already know about grief still to come.
Seamare! Curlicue! Winding wet!

Joachim Ringelnatz is the pen name of the German author and painter Hans Bötticher. He is best known for his wry poems, often using word play and sometimes bordering on nonsense poetry.
His pen name Ringelnatz is usually explained as a dialect expression for an animal, possibly a variant of the seahorse for winding ("ringeln") its tail around objects. Seahorse is called Ringelnass (nass = wet) by mariners to whom he felt belonging.
