Caricature on the Start (how I work)

I am an illustrator and i draw caricatures too. Caricature works are what i am asked most and are the kind of work that i like a lot because it amuses me well. I just have to match it to the project of my clients with differents styles and contents.

Here is an outline of my approach to an artistic work of this kind.

Below, a video exemple of a kind of quick pencil caricature that i used to do as a warm-up . The artist BD Leonard is my reference picture. He is a great artist go check it out on instagram.

I like to use basics tools: pen and paper. Just build some shapes and draw my details after. If i am ok with my work i usualy spend more time on shapes and shading with a lot of pencil cross hatching.

The following step: scan my drawing and put it on photoshop to start working on in digital. Results can be lots of differents styles following what i wanna to do, realistic, cartoon, black and white, . . . this depends of the goal of my artwork and of the commisioner needs.
