"Wildhuter" ME-109 Warbird (Commission)

One of my first digital commissions using Corel Painter and the WACOM Cintiq was to paint and print a warbird for an Eastern European client's birthday with an interest in the aircraft used by the Axis powers. I've since updated the painting.
The brief was to paint any ME-109. As so many were produced under every variant, the choice really came down to what source photography I could find. The painting's name is "Wildhuter", German for Game Keeper (sans umlaut on the 'u' here, sorry).

Commissions are a funny thing. They add a level of pressure that can detract from the pleasure of the painting experience. That was certainly the case here before I could find photos with sufficient details of that oil cooler on the side of the engine, or that could explain the geometry of those flap boxes.

I print onto archival paper with 12-ink pigment inks using a Canon Pro-1 printer and frame the print myself.
A copy of the print has been on display during my solo exhibition at the ARTBANK Bunclody, which was extended from its one-week schedule in July 2017 to throughout August.

Sadly, I believe the subject airframe is no longer flying and instead preserved in a museum.
