Walking in Heterotopia reflects the migration experiences of living in Southern Germany where I spent just over a year. By completing this project, I wanted to explore my personal understanding of heterotopia and to determine locations which I could identify with the concept. The Ancient Greek word heterotopia can be translated as "different space". In my view, one of such locations is the lake of Bodensee (Lake Constance). Bodensee is located between Austria, Germany and Switzerland and it is the third largest lake in the Central Europe. It also has an exceptional geopolitical aspect - this is the only place in Europe where there aren’t any borders, since no legally binding agreements exist regarding the exact border line separating the lake. This creates a space which does not belong to any nation. The impression of a "different space" is fortified by emptiness and archaic purity of the place. It almost seems that the time does not exist here – such is a character of boundless, uninhabited space. Yet every day I had to travel across this space in order to reach destinations necessary to my day-to-day living: I had to cross the forest, walk through the empty field and get to the other side of the lake. That revealed another aspect of the space: the need to traverse it. Bodensee was dominant, all unifying place which connected every-day life with the time-less and boundless reality.
One of such a place was a huge empty field, the beginning of which was marked by ten trees, planted in a strict grid. The picture of each tree is a symbol of loneliness, archaicness, futility. Beyond it the darkness, the boundless emptiness opens. A ritual to walk in this space has become my daily need: everytime i feel there fragility, infinity and could observe myself from a different point of view.

Šio projekto atspirties tašku tapo heterotopijos sąvoka, kuri, pažodžiui išvertus iš senovės graikų kalbos, reiškia „kitokią erdvę“. Šio projekto tikslas - išsiaiškinti, ką kitokios erdvės samprata reiškia man pačiai ir atrasti konkrečias vietas, kurios man yra heterotopijos. Šią sampratą formavau remdamasi patirtimi, kuri atsirado gyvenant pietų Vokietijoje, šalia Bodensee ežero. Jis išskirtinis ne tik tuo, jog tai trečias pagal dydį ežeras Centrinėje Europoje, bet ir dėl tam tikrų geopolitinių aspektų. Ežeras yra tarp Vokietijos, Šveicarijos ir Austrijos ir tai yra vienintelė Europos vieta, kurioje nėra jokio legalaus susitarimo, žyminčio šių šalių ribas. Šis faktas mane sudomino, kadangi plaukiant Bodensee iš esmės nepriklausai jokiai konkrečiai teritorijai.
Bodensee teritorija - gana archajiška, bei simbolinė erdvė, pasižyminti daugybe tuščių, beribių, beveik negyvenamų vietų, kuriose, atrodo, neegzistuoja laikas. Tokias erdves turėdavau pereiti kiekvieną dieną, norėdama pasiekti būtiniausius kasdieninius taškus (parduotuvė, darbas, transportas). Abstrakčios teritorijos tarsi atliko susisiekimo vaidmenį tarp realybės bei tam tikros utopinės erdvės. Viena iš tokių erdvių (arba heterotopijų) - tuščias laukas, kurio pradžią žymėjo dešimt tvarkingai susodintų medžių. Kiekvienas nufotografuotas medis - tam tikras vienatvės, archajiškumo, belaikiškumo simbolis, už kurių atsiveria tamsi, beribė tuštuma. Kasdienis pasivaikščiojimas šia erdve tapo tam tikru ritualu, kurio metu galima tarsi stebėti savo iš šalies: atsiranda vienatvės, trapumo, begalybės pojūtis.
