Ways to Support National Adoption Day
Judge John Bowman has served as a circuit court judge in the state of Florida for nearly 15 years. In 2007, Judge John Bowman was named Community Advocate of the Year. He continues to engage with various philanthropic efforts at the local and the national level, including National Adoption Day.

National Adoption Day occurs annually in the United States on the Saturday preceding Thanksgiving. The mission of the event is to raise awareness of the nation’s foster care system, which currently oversees the care of more than 100,000 children, and to promote their adoption. In 2015, more than 4,000 adoptions were completed on National Adoption Day. Nearly 59,000 adoptions have occurred on National Adoption Day since 2000.

For individuals or families who are not in a position to adopt a child, there are still several ways to support the event. One of the simplest ways involves raising awareness by using the #NationalAdoptionDay hashtag on social media platforms and by discussing the day with friends, family, and coworkers. Individuals may also consider making a contribution to local foster care services or to a National Adoption Day partner such as the Alliance for Children’s Rights or the Children’s Action Network. Upcoming National Adoption Days will take place on November 18, 2017, and November 17, 2018.
