Quality Control App
Our Client was a precision manufacturer of High volume metal parts and assemblies for defense  and aero space industries. Given the domain Precision and Quality was of uttermost importance, the current challenge for our client was around manufacturing ballistic war heads for via cnc process, the current system of capturing quality issues via traditional paper based. Hence as with any paper based system, the process was cumbersome, time-consuming and difficult to maintain or scale. Our clients consulted us to to review their current process and provide recommendations in developing a new digital application fulfilling their requirement. 

The challenges in terms of design were not with respect to the application, but more with the environment in which its supposed to be used. The intent of the business was to place a touch screen device preferably an iPad in close proximity to the CNC machine so that the machine operator can verify the machined product to the specifications and log any defects via the device. Given that we had a non sterile environment and machine operators used thick heat resistant gloves to handle the machined parts, we couldn’t use a iPad given its captive touch nature, we researched to find a resistive touch based rugged device which can tolerate the environment also the interface controls on the application were made pretty large considering the operators had gloves on while inputting the data into the device. We also provided strategic location and placement architecture for the device positioning close to CNC machine. Also, interface look and feel mimicked the look and feel of typical CNC machine controls to enhance familiarity with respect to the interaction of the device.
