SKETCH
CONCEPT
The main photograph of the young woman (Zasiadko 2015) is a close match structurally for the original painting, but I will flip the image horizontally, and cut the shirt from the man (Cagle 2017) to better match it. Darkening his white shirt to black may be difficult given the white colour, so I will use the top image of the man in the black speckled t-shirt (Wong 2017) instead. The overall final finish will be heavily layered with a canvas effect; darkened background; and very soft, blurred out brush stroke. The shadows on the girl (Zasiadko 2015) will fall on the same side as the Peter Hannen (Glyn Warren Philpot, 1915–1916) painting but will need lightening so they are much softer.
ORIGINAL PAINTING
ASSETS
TECHNIQUES
The main techniques I will use to get my composite image looking like the original painting are: applying a canvas texture as seen in right (Guerriero 2011), using Photoshop’s Filter Gallery to choose artistic effects, LUTs to match colours in the original painting, and blend modes (likely overlay and soft light in varying opacities to fine-tune new adjustment layers. A great tutorial video to help me achieve these techniques is Photoshop Tutorial: How to Transform a Photo into an Antique, Oil Painting (2014).
