Rice Washing Bowl
Perforated strainer for rinsing, soaking and washing rice, grains, fruits and vegetables
This 3 cup rice washer minimizes the tools you'll need to prepare your rice, quinoa, legumes and more. Inspired by my own small kitchen with minimal cupboard space, this bowl eliminates extra dishes to wash and also is the perfect size for storing in the cupboards. Perforations only at the top of the washer bowl allows you to soak your ingredients and rinse in one place. A lip on the opposite side gives you an extra hand and makes it easy to hold. The holes are small enough to keep your grains like quinoa in and still allow ample water flow for rinsing well.
Initial round of prototypes - we tested two different sizes for capacity as well as the drainage hole sizes. We determined we would go with three different sizes, 3, 4 and 6 cups (of rice). We also liked the low profile as a good option for kitchens with limited vertical cupboard storage, however we did like the single/small portion size. The bowls need to nest into each other as well as stand up on it's on.
Further Development and Prototypes
Modifications to the shape of the bowl was made after some user testing with the prototypes. The item needs to stand on its side, have feet for stability, we also enlarged the top lip so you could get your hands inside the bowl easily. Also added a hole where the handle was hanging options. The new updated looks has a slim and low profile for more efficient soaking as well as taking up less space in your cupboard.
