Stefan Sagmeister was born in 1962 in Bregenz, Austria. In 2013 Stefan was presented with the AIGA Medal, which took place at Bright Lights: The AIGA Awards in New York City. (Heller 2017)
Sagmeister is well known for his unorthodox, provocative designs that cause the designers role in society to be questioned (Heller 2017, para1). He tricks the people’s senses through his designs, typography, environmental art, videos and conceptual exhibitions. He is known as a trickster and to upset design norms. (Heller 2017, para.2)
Sagmeister's artwork usually comes with a strong messages and mostly have quite a harshness to it. He used images and topics which would disturb the public (things they did not want to see) to capture their attention and the disturbing image would stays in the public’s mind. The techniques and style he uses is truly inspiring and the fact how he succeed to get the message out there and how he manage to make the public react so much towards his work.
An interesting fact about Stefan Sagmeister is that he places himself in most of his artwork. One can say that this is something that has always been outstanding from most designers; when designers start making themselves as part of their design. The designer becomes the design, and one would say a designer should become part of his or her design, as it makes it true and more personal.

Set the twilight reeling is a song that was released in 1996. This song’s original artist was Lou Reed. The image above was the cover of that album and the song was the title of the album. The text over the face is the lyrics to that song, Set the twilight reeling. (Alextheman1976’s channel 2009)
"A design should have a function and most designs of today has no true function. This would also be one of the reasons why designers never become as famous as artist. To become famous there needs to be a direct function related to the artwork." - Sagmeister
