Eve Ensler's One Billion Rising came to Kolkata in December 2014 where the acclaimed playwright and performer witnessed the premiere of 'Portia' which was conceptualised for the promotion of the campaign at St.Xaviers Kolkata called 'Dance for Revolution'
Portia is a quasi- documentary of monologues portraying how some women speak about the difference in duties of women but finally end up falling into the hands of our patriarchal society and their wishes consequently suppressed. These women tell us stories that we see and hear every day but with an answer which disturbs the customary norms. Portia is one of the most important positive female characters in theatre and she is the spokesperson of our play. Here, Portia is the symbol for women in the twenty-first century.
Also, as a part of creating awareness for the One Billion Rising program an online promotion campaign was ideated with Influence magazine.
Portia was also later showcased at KYTF and Calcutta Women's Economic Forum
