2012-2014 MetService.com website

While working at MetService I got to work on www.metservice.com

Initially was in an incident and support role for the servers and correcting some data in the database (Oracle) across 2012-2013, then moved into a developer role from mid 2013 through to Sept 2014. In that capacity undertook BAU changes, small projects (adding new modules and functions to site), etc

The Metservice.com website was really a series of websites on different subdomains - 'm.' mobile using drupal is mentioned as different portfolio item. 'about.' was done in Silverstripe while 'blog.' was done in Wordpress. The main desktop data drive site 'www.' was a bespoke solution - picture here.

At an API level used Tomcat with Java and Ecmascript to query Oracle and build RESTful JSON APIs. Front end ran on Apache and used templates driven by SSI while rest of website was driven in front end by Javascript/JQuery and AJAX consumption of APIs to get what you see now. A small Java based RSS module was used to retrieve and pass 3rd party RSS feeds. We also integrated into Facebook etc. Flot was used for some chart drawing. Added some XML parsing for the WIS search.

We used various Google APIs - analytics, adverts and maps. I also added the use of Flickr API integration.

Added some feature toggles for switching some functionality without a full deployment. Normal deployment builds were done via shell scripting - I've since learnt they have moved to Ansible.

Source code examples are not available for prospective employers to view.

In late 2019, MetService replaced this website with one based on React, Cherrytree & Microcosm. The redevelopment was done by an external vendor for them.
