    During the year 2016 Ellmer Stefan released a new Fount of Display Type every consecutive Monday and provided those free-of-charge for a limited time of 7 days through the website www.thepytefoundry.net Paying tribute to the typographic diversity of the 19th century, this project’s aim is not historical accuracy: the released typefaces aren’t strict revivals of specific typefaces produced in the Victorian era — they are rather «revivals in spirit» indulging into stylistic manifoldness and idiosyncratic hyperbolism. The constant strive for stylistic innovation in the 1800s lead to designs showing an immense degree of imagination. Reflecting on these heydays of typographic novelty, this project combines historical research with the latest font technology in order to make this vibrant period accesible for contemporary graphic use without indulging in unnessecary nostalgia. The caleidoscopic palette of designs envisioned for this project is ranging from pantographically altered letters to elegant Tuscans to ultra-fat Faces to multi-layered designs for chromatic display application.
