The client decided the look and feel needed more differentiation from competitors and a more dynamic logo could be helpful for different applications. Moving away from the colour "red" the actual meaning of "R&D" (Research & Development) gets more emphasis. There are 2 states of the logo: the full version and more iconic compact version. The compact iteration could work well on packaging or for web applications.
