There’s nothing like a hot day on the calm, Majorcan coast. Can you feel the heat? The tree was the inspiration here with its twisting trunk, almost appearing to be climbing up over the side from the sea. Rougher foliage to the right of the painting enhances the stronger detail of the main tree. 

The dry soil, the dusty brick, the rich blue sky - you can almost feel the stillness and the midday sun beating down. The little girl in the distance adds playfulness and movement. The hot stillness was the inspiration for this piece. 

This painting complements the hot daytime garden above. Longer shadows, still creating sharp contrasts, are thrown against the brick wall by small spotlights on the soil. There’s something comforting in a peaceful garden on a summer night, the inspiration for this painting. These two paintings work well as a pair.
