Urban Future - Contest Submission

This was my submission for the contest "Innovación Para tus Pies IV" (2017) by ACICAM*
*The Colombian Association of Manufacturers of Footwear, Leather and it's manufactures.

The contest started on July 2016 with the submission of digital renders and ended on february 2017 with the presentation of 3 prototypes.

The Task
We had to choose one of the four trends made by ARSUTORIA for the A/W 17-18.
Based on the chosen trend, we had to create a collection of 8 different shoes.
From all the digital submissions, the jury selected 8 designers to be in the final stage.
I had to select only 3 of my designs and prototype them.

This was my first time making a shoe by my own... a lot of learning, a great experience.

Chosen Trend: "ROBOTOP POP"

Exaggerated and arrogant style, inversion of the aesthetic standards. A pillage of the most irreverent artists. Works of art that cannibalize and engulf everything that is highlighted, such as the icon of luxury. Unconventional interaction between futurism and dynamism. The international brands of luxury fashion and automotive take part in an iconic movement of the new robotic pop. The attraction of space explored by robot warriors who travel around in spaceships. Items such as gas masks that transform into a motorbike helmet. Chanel hairdryer adapted as a fighting weapon to be displayed. Hermès or Bugatti grenades, icons of new provocative keepsakes. Post-apocalyptic, between hi-tech and retro futurism. Experimental and glamorous sportswear, Robot style that combines destroyed and experimental active-wear. The market of basketball sneakers. Oversized volumes. The more animated brands make themselves known due to futuristic materials and provocations.

MY PROPOSAL

Based on the "ROBOTOP POP" trend by "ARSUTORIA", I wanted to create a collection with a futuristic look.
I try to incorporate volumes to change the "conventional" shape of the foot and also in some cases I try to create new and different ways to adjust the shoe without laces. Finally, the use of straight lines with sharp edges, overlapping layers and "the senstion of speed", was the key to get to the futuristic look I was looking for.

I was selected as one of the eight finalist, so I had to choose 3 of my designs and make the prototypes
(before this, I had never done a pair of shoes by myself)

sorry the bad photos, where taken with my cellphone...

Prototype 1 Concepto 03
This Prototype was the first one I did. I started with this one because I thought it was going to be the hardest to be done.
And yes, It was hard to make it. I realize that the proportions of the render wasn't good for a real shoe. Also I was afraid of some materials, that is why the mesh has a layer under to give some structure to the shoe.

Prototype 2 Concepto 04
This Prototype was the second one I did. After the first prototype, I did some corrections but also I did some mistakes like stitching the elastic band to the leather. I also had a bad time trying to create the volumes on the heel, that didn't result as I spectated but it was fun trying.

Prototype 3 Concepto 02
This is the last prototype I did, because it was the easiest and also, after the other 2 prototypes, I avoid the mistakes of the previous prototypes.

For the mid-sole of all 3 prototypes, I used sheets of EVA, I glue them, and using a roll sander I gave it the shape.

Now, some photos of the runway where the shoes were shown.

Thanks Daniel and Alex for all this.
