"The interplay between sunlight and the leaves or branches of a tree"

This is a filmed exploration of Gestalt Theory and the interaction between positive and negative, inspired by the work of Franco Grignani. I rolled sheets of paper — printed with stripes —  across each other, continually changing the composition to free the mind of a sense of beginning and end in an attempt to suspend the mind's natural inclination to predict and 'fill in'.
I used a mobile phone camera to record (which explains the quality, or lack there of...) which led to a rather interesting accidental consequence. The camera's automatic functioning causes it to constantly refocus, replicating how the eye takes time to adjust. I attempted to heighten this by removing frames so that the final cut appeared similar to a stop motion animation, contributing to the disruption of expectation.

Really this was just a bit of fun and a way to experiment with Premier Pro, but the outcome ended up being more interesting that I would have imagined!
