This 3D model is a concept made for the character Turin. It's inspired by the sword "Anglachel" (Black Death) described in his tale inside J.R.R. Tolkien's book, The Silmarillion. Since his blade has a glowing black color, it was difficult to choose a good background to render it. The black background ended up being the best option because of its absence of color, and the white, the worst to show details because of its reflectivity. Below, part of the sculpting and modelling process, as well as the model without materials and texture is shown.
Above, part of the modelling process using deformation and sculpting details with masks. I used inspirational art found in Tolkien Gateway website. The art below was the most important reference used. It was made by Alan Lee for book The Children of Húrin.
