Do you own a heirloom piece of furniture, maybe a jewelry box, or an old board game that you must have played with your grandparents? If you do, you know they are not easily found. As a child I loved board games, my grandparents taught me all the games that they played as children. In our world today these cultural games are deemed archaic and outdated, but these games offer something that we have lost through time, human connection and interaction and tactile memories. My objective in this project is to create a seamless body of work that ties together preservation of traditional games along with my artistic practice as a furniture maker, by fusing the traditional essence of the board games with contemporary aesthetics.
