I donated some of my time to help a school out with some problems they were having with parents not remembering some important information throughout the school year. I took a look at their newsletter and it was just a word document with an abundance of information. I was concerned that parents would get this information and just be overwhelmed by the content. With the strict printout restrictions such as no color or bleeds to help save money, it was a challenge.
Instead of making the information really cute and kiddish, I decided to present the information as a newspaper set up with big loud headlines to grab attention. Also I went with a more mature approach since adults would be reading the material. I thought it would be important as well to include a picture the teachers could update, so parents could get a glimpse of their kids at the school. I felt this would help with connecting the parents to school activities. I made a logo for them that resembled a young cougar to fit the grade level other than their current logo depicting an adult cougar.
