About Pennsylvania Motorcycle Laws

Serving as president of Insmax Insurance Brokerage, Inc., Philadelphia resident Lawrence “Larry” Koresko is primarily responsible for leading all of the efforts pertaining to the company’s overall growth and financial management. In his leisure time, Lawrence Koresko is an avid motorcycle enthusiast who enjoys riding throughout Pennsylvania. Consequently, he remains cognizant of the state’s laws governing motorcycle use.

Many states have different laws governing the use of helmets and other protective gear. In Pennsylvania, for example, anyone under 21 years old driving a motorcycle is required to wear a U.S. Department of Transportation-approved helmet. Once the rider is over 21 and has gained two or more years of riding experience or has taken an approved safety class, he or she can then ride without a helmet. Those who operate motorcycles with three wheels or completely enclosed cabins also do not have to wear helmets.

The state does, however, require that all motorcycle operators wear some sort of protective eyewear when riding. Any piece of gear that protects the eyes is sufficient, but the state suggests that operators purchase eyewear that is shatterproof.
