July Sketchbook
I finally managed to desecrate a spotless Moleskine that I bought AGES ago, bringing it along to various sketch meet-ups this month. I decided to use the opportunity to do some full-page drawings.

When it comes to analogue drawing, I usually prefer to draw immediately in fineliner instead of penciling anything first. This is because the ability to erase sometimes prevents me from "just getting on with it".

The first two sketches have elements of life drawing (I was actually outside) while the third involved imagination and a couple of flower references.

Tools used:
- Unipin fineliner (0.2/0.3/0.8)
- Faber Castell fineliner (0.7)
- MonAmi Acculiner
- Moleskine Cahier Journal

A run-of-the-mill Frangipani Yellow pastel Moleskine Cahier and my personal favourite selection of pens right now.
This first sketch session took place at a golf estate. There were lots of interesting bits of architecture around to draw, but eventually I got carried away and my thoughts turned to Stargates. There's a little Dr Seuss homage in there as well.
Let's look closer...
This second sketch is from a session at Rondebosch Common, which is basically a massive field with scenic views of Cape Town landmarks: Table Mountain, UCT and Rhodes Memorial (which in this case has become a temple of Cthulhu). In addition there are bits and pieces of suburban trappings - palm trees, houses and stop signs.  I enjoy taking real bits of an environment and turning them into a more whimsical scene.
A closer look...
For this sketch session, we met in a coffee shop, and so the drawing is mostly from the imagination - barring a few references to toxic plants like Deadly Nightshade and Hemlock. The neighborhood we were in is notable for its quaint Victorian architecture and that came through in the theme of the drawing.
Close-ups...
Thanks for Watching!
