Homage to Maria Sibylla Merian

This is a time-lapse of a live event that colleague Ann Rosenthal and I participated in on July 7. We began painting at about 1 p.m. and finished at about 10 p.m.
The mural is homage to Maria Sibylla Merian (1647 - 1717).
Born in Frankfurt, Merian raised caterpillars and butterflies at an early age. As one of the first to study insect metamorphosis, she recorded 186 species. At the age of 52, Maria Sibylla Merian and one of her daughters sailed to Suriname with the intent to research and document insect and plant life there. Her research produced her groundbreaking tome "Metamorphosis Insectorum Surinamensium" (1705)
