Our brief for this project was to encourage culturally engaged young people to experience ballet for the first time.
My work involved a stop motion animation to advertise my point. I first experimented by drawing several stills on tracing paper, to really explore the depth and movement of ballet.
My slogan, made up of two parts is ‘make the effort to appreciate the effort’. The first part was created to ask the public to ‘make the effort’ - to get up and be less sluggish, second was to ‘appreciate the effort’ - to watch the ballerinas, putting on a show that has put in hours upon hours of work.
The concept was to focus on people in the 21st century being seen as lazy - always taking the easiest route, especially in cities. Inspired by the ‘masstransiscope’ in NYC, I will show my film on an abandoned station on the London underground, where the ROH is, to target people when they are at their laziest.
