Discovery Ensemble

**WORK IN PROGRESS**

I'm currently working on this project as part of my Graphic Design 2 class. The assignment is to create a new identity for a local Boston organization, the Discovery Ensemble. They are a relatively new ensemble comprised of local non-professional musicians. They believe in making music accessible to everyone, and are very involved in improving musical education here in Boston.

Assignment:
Step 1.
Choose 3 different concepts which define your organization
     My 3 concepts: Modern, Education, Non-professionalStep 2.
Draft 3 different vehicles (i.e. logo, program cover, etc.) for each conceptStep 3.     Based on the classes decision, refine one direction for the remainder of the semester

Concept 1: Modern
The idea of an ensemble comprised of non-professional musicians is a modern idea, one which does against the traditional professionalism and high class of a typical ensemble or orchestra. I communicated this concept by focusing on a clean, modern design style, while using color to communicate the energy and youth of those who comprise the ensemble.

 Concept 2: Education
The Discovery Ensembles dedication to making music and musical education accessible to kids here in Boston is a huge part of the ensembles mission. I communicated through the idea of building blocks, and using color to communicate a child-like and elementary energy.

 Concept 3: Non-professional
Being comprised of non-professional musicians is one of the major aspects that sets this ensemble apart from others, and makes it accessible to a wider range of people. I communicated this by using color and composition to show a vibrant energy, one which is youthful, but not immature.

Based on my classes decision, I will be continuing with the development of Concept 1. Updates will follow over the course of the semester.
