Daragh from Dúlra Photography asked me to design the layout of a hardback book to showcase his 'Jewellery Box' collection of photographs. Daragh travelled around the coast of Ireland taking stunning photos of rock pools and he wanted to include 65 of these images in the book with accompanying text.

This was a very personal project for Daragh and we wanted to retain that sense of personality in the book rather than just being a collection of images. We also wanted to give a sense of the journey taken, so to help achieve this, a map of Ireland's coast was included with each image. I sourced a beautiful nineteenth-century cartographical illustration of Ireland and created a mini-map for each image to pinpoint the exact location it was taken.

Careful consideration was given to the font chosen and the complexity of the map so as not to distract from the image they accompanied, arguably the main focus of the book. The result is a piece of work that the client was delighted with and that I am very proud of.
