In the series, the artist painted with music. She read the Faust, Goethe’s great poem, and recalled the phenomenal composition by Franz Liszt in her mind. She then started to illustrate the Rhapsodies and Études when reading some plots and created two sections contrasting each other.

During the composing, the artist discovered the Red Earth Highland in China was the best expression for the tragedy and magnificence in the poem, for its geographical texture being a metaphor of contradictory lives both of Faust and Liszt.
