Tracking Information
Drums:  The drums were recorded on separate tracks all in one take to a click track with multiple tempo changes and had a guitar reference track being played at the same time to help maintain the structure and groove of the song.  The drums were setup on a carpet in the live room with wooden walls and floors - 15' x 17'.  We used the following microphones on the drum kit.
- Kick: Audix D6
- Snare: Shure SM57
- Bottom Snare: Sennheiser e604
- Toms:  Sennheiser e604 x2
- Overheads: AT-4033e x2
Percussion: All percussion instruments were recorded using large diaphragm condensers at close range in the live room - 15' x 17'. Each element was tracked separately to allow for more control of the volume, dynamics, and EQ within the mix. Since there were so many percussion instruments, we had to spend extra time EQing to make sure that each sound was heard and did not conflict with anything else in the mix.
Guitars: We originally recorded a guitar reference track through DI while recording the drum track to help with maintaining the structure of the song. With the drum track recorded, we then went back and separately recorded each guitar tone throughout the song on different tracks to allow for more control of the volume, dynamics, and EQ of each tone. The amp was placed in a 5' x 8' isolation booth and recorded with a large diaphragm condenser microphone placed about 6" from angles between the cone and outer edge of the speaker
Bass: Recorded on two separate tracks with both DI through the bass head and with a Shure SM57 placed on the outer edge of the speaker cone to capture some of the highs. The bass cabinet was placed in the live room - 15' x 17'.  Once tracked, we mixed both bass tracks together to get a full healthy bass.
Organ: On it's own stereo track, we recorded the organ DI from the keyboard. We had EQed it slighty so it wouldn't overpower the mix, but it would shine through at the right times.
Synthesizers/Drum Programming:  Produced in Reason 3 and also with a Roland SH201.
Vocals:  All vocals were recorded using an AT-4033e inside the live room - 15' x 17'.  By request, the vocals were left dry, we had used very little to no EQ and minimal compression during mixing.
