New Life Carrier-Cot (RSA Commended entry)

New Life Carrier-Cot
Being a newborn baby in a developing country isn't always easy.

Basic infections can be deadly, premature birth is common and mosquitos pose the risk of malaria, which is estimated by the World Health Organisation to take the life of a child every 2 minutes.

New Life Carrier-Cot is an innovative, multi-functional product designed to help combat these issues.

The first function of New Life Carrier-Cot is an anti-bacterial baby-carrier that helps keep the newborn keep close to the mother. This is particularly beneficial to premature babies who need skin-to-skin contact to help stabilise their heartbeat and allow them to grow.

The second function of New Life Carrier-Cot is a cot with inbuilt mosquito-net protection. The straps of the carrier double-up as a frame for the cot. The inbuilt conversion process is easy and empowering for the mother, providing on-the-go protection from mosquitos.
In order to help fund the distribution of New Life Carrier-Cot, a 'bag for new life' can be purchased from supermarkets or charity shops in the UK. This is a fun twist on the 'bag for life' that pretty much everyone owns. It helps publicise the project by making a bright statement.
This project was commended by the 2017 RSA Student Design Awards.
