The client wanted a design that visually represented the race and the location of London. Three initial designs were created, two of them using iconic London landmarks in the bottom of the shoe, and a third using the map of the race course itself, as the sole of the shoe. The design selected placed London Landmarks in the sole of a running shoe at a horizontal angle with the Merkle logo and tagline beneath.

The Standard Chartered Great City Race is a unique 5km corporate running challenge which takes place around the closed off streets of the City of London. DBG requested a design that represented London and the race.
